Is Truth Knowable? YES! Jesus said "I AM the Way, the Truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but through Me." (Jn.14:6) Jesus Christ is the embodiment of Truth, His Life was Truth, He Spoke the Truth, He is the Truth! The Person of Jesus Christ is knowable! The Bible says, "And THIS is life eternal: that they KNOW you the only true God, AND JESUS CHRIST whom you sent." (John 17:3) If you don't know Jesus Christ, If you don't have a personal relationship with Him, you will be cast into hell! Jesus said, "Agonize to enter by the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you will begin to stand outside and knock on the door, saying, 'Lord open to us!' then He will answer and say to you, 'I do not know where you are from'. Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets,' and He will say, 'I tell you, I do not know where you are from; Depart from Me, all you evildoers'. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth there you see Abraham and Issac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves being cast out." (Luke 13:24-28)
So What Difference Does It Make What I Believe or Trust In? The Bible Says "He who TRUSTS in the Son has eternal life: and he who DISTRUSTS the Son sees not life; but the wrath of God abides on Him." (John 3:36) "Whoever trusts not God MAKES HIM A LIAR; because he trusts not in the record that God gave concerning his Son." (I John5:10)
But I Sincerely Believe I'm OK, Isn't That Enough? Jesus said, "He who believes in Him (Jesus Christ) is not judged, he who does not believe has been judged already, because he had not trusted in the name of the only unique Son of God." (John 3:18) "There is salvation in no one else: for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)
How Do I Know I Have Found The Truth? Jesus said, "Whenever you abide in my word you are truly my disciples; and you know the truth and the truth liberates you." (John 8:31-32) This passage tells us two ways to know we have found truth: 1. If you are abiding in God's word and are truly following Him daily, then you have found truth! 2. If you think you have found truth but have not been set free from sin, you have not found truth! The Truth must & will make a difference in your life! If you have not been set free from sinful, lustful thoughts, lying, being the friend of money, etc., you haven't found the truth! If your church doctrine (whatever it is) has NOT brought you daily victory over sin, you haven't found truth! (See also Rom.6:17-18) Jesus came to set us free from our sin! (Mt.1:21)
What is Necessary to Know the Truth? Two Key Things: 1. You Must Love The Truth! That Means You MUST: a. Love The Lord Jesus Christ (Who Is The Truth) - Jesus was asked "Which is the greatest commandment in the Law? He answered "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." (Mt.22:36-37) "He who has My commandments and guards them, he it is who loves Me; and he who loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him. He who does not love Me does not guard My words." (John 14:21, 24) b. Love The Truth About Yourself And Your Helpless Condition! What is meant by your helpless condition? You can do absolutely NOTHING to save yourself! "...For they receive not the love of the truth to save them." (I Thess.2:10-11) 2. You Must Be Willing To Do The Truth No Matter What! "If any man will to do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." (John 7:17)
How Do I Know That I Love the Truth & I Am Following Jesus Christ? "Whoever says, 'I know Him!' - and guards not His commandments is a liar and the truth is not in Him." (I John 5:4) "In this are the children of God and the children of the devil made obvious, whoever does not justness is not of God, neither whoever loves not his brother." (I John 3:10) "Not everyone who says to Me, Lord! Lord! enters the kingdom of the heavens; but whoever does the will of my father in the heavens. Many will say to Me in that day, have we not prophesied in Thy name? and in Thy name have cast out demons? and in Thy name done many wonderful works? And then shall I profess unto them, I never ever knew you: depart from Me, ye that violate the law." (Mt.7:21-23)
